Do Judge a Book by its Cover(s)

Select one cover and write a PIE paragraph about why it is the most effective cover.

This will be a persuasive piece of writing. You must persuade your audience that the book cover of your choice is the most effective cover.

There are no “right” answers. Each of these covers has been chosen at one time or another – they are all “right.”

Ultimately, which do you believe would most effectively entice a reader to pick up this book? Which cover would have drawn you to it as a reader?

Model for Writing a Pie Paragraph for this Assignment:

P = Point. Decide what you want to say. This sentence will basically be: “# [your choice] is the best cover" Or "# [your choice] would be the cover that would most likely encourage me to read it" etc. etc.

I = Information. What do you notice about this cover? – what elements (discussed in class) are effectively used - what is enticing to you about this cover?

E = Explanation. This is your persuasive element. Use the information to back you up. Use this to sum up why the elements of the cover combine to make this the best cover. Why would a teen be drawn to this book, by its cover, for instance?

You will have 15 minutes to complete this paragraph. When you are finished, swap seats with a neighbor and perform a peer review. You will then upload this assignment to turnitin.com
